Fresh Produce Bonus Now Available for SNAP Shoppers at Select Walmart Stores in 6 Louisiana Parishes

SNAP recipients across Louisiana now have a new way to stretch their grocery dollars while bringing home more fresh produce. Through a federally funded pilot from the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), shoppers using SNAP benefits can earn a 30% bonus on fresh fruits and vegetables when they buy them at participating Walmart stores in Ascension, LaSalle, Sabine, Tangipahoa, Webster, and West Carroll Parishes.

This pilot is part of the USDA’s Electronic Healthy Incentives Project (eHIP) and is designed to promote healthier food choices while helping families extend their food budgets. The program is active now and will continue for six to nine months.

To earn the produce bonus:

  • Use your EBT card to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at a participating Walmart store in one of the 6 pilot parishes.

  • For every $1 spent, you’ll receive an extra $0.30, up to $25 per month in bonus benefits.

  • No sign-up is needed. Bonus dollars are automatically added to your EBT card and can be used right away.

  • While produce must be purchased at a participating Walmart to earn the bonus, bonus benefits can be used at any store that accepts EBT for SNAP-eligible items.

This opportunity is available to all Louisiana SNAP recipients, regardless of where they live in the state. However, shoppers must buy their fresh produce at one of the 13 participating Walmart stores in the designated parishes to earn the eHIP bonus.

Programs like eHIP have shown promising results, with participants in similar efforts purchasing 26% more fruits and vegetables than non-participants.
