Delivering More Food Across Louisiana

With support from Feeding America and CVS Health, Feeding Louisiana is leading a two-year evaluation and feasibility study to scale Food As Medicine solutions across our state.

What we’re exploring

Produce prescriptions (PRx): Fruit/vegetable benefits delivered through food banks and partners.

  • Medically tailored groceries/pantries: Condition-aligned foods for diabetes, hypertension, and other diet-related diseases.

  • Nutrition education & coaching: Practical, culturally responsive guidance that fits family budgets.

  • Clinic referrals & EHR integration: Screening for food insecurity (e.g., Hunger Vital Sign), closed-loop referrals, and data-sharing.

  • Sustainable financing: Medicaid pathways (e.g., 1115 waiver options), value-based care models, and payer/provider partnerships

Our network of food banks and community partners stand ready at a moment's notice to serve communities in Louisiana impacted by disaster.

Louisiana bears a high burden of diet-related disease. Food As Medicine can improve health, reduce costs, and make nutritious food a standard part of care—especially for neighbors facing food insecurity.
