Feeding Louisiana, the state food bank association, will place 14 AmeriCorps members at food bank facilities throughout the state to support community members with critical food insecurity needs.

            Feeding Louisiana refers to its network of AmeriCorps as its “NourishCorps,” emphasizing the distinct purpose of these members to expand the ability of the food banks to nourish people in need. NourishCorps members will join a cohort of statewide AmeriCorps members dedicated to combating food insecurity and will gain personal and professional leadership skills, training, mentorship from food bank and Feeding Louisiana staff, and relationships with a supportive network of fellow members.

            NourishCorps Food Pantry Members will serve food bank clients – referred to as “neighbors,” recognizing their firsthand experience with food insecurity – by offering one-on-one guidance with food assistance applications and pantry shopping, while fostering connections between neighbors and the food bank.

    About This Unique Position Within the Food Bank:

    NourishCorps Food Pantry Members will serve in a unique position at the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana, expanding the food bank’s capacity by providing direct assistance to neighbors, building connections with neighbors who frequently visit the pantry, and supporting pantry activities, including:

    1. Providing one-on-one guidance to neighbors as they submit food assistance applications, helping ensure neighbors understand the process and can successfully access pantry service.

    2. Supporting neighbors as they navigate the pantry experience, ensuring they feel welcomed, understand their options, and can select foods that meet their household’s needs.

    3. Connecting pantry shoppers with other assistance programs and resources that they may qualify for, improving their long-term food security and building stronger connections between the food bank and its neighbors.

    4. Providing supplemental operational support to enhance pantry flow and neighbor experience, such as supporting logistics and food safety practices under staff guidance.

    Service Position Activities Will Also Include:

    • Performing duties in accordance with food bank safety policies and Feeding Louisiana’s NourishCorps member handbook.

    • Attending and completing all NourishCorps and food bank required training and orientations.

    • Traveling to other Louisiana food banks for training, service, and networking opportunities with NourishCorps members throughout the state.

    • Meeting with food bank site supervisor and Feeding Louisiana staff as scheduled.

    • Inputting data into computer systems, supporting organization of pantry food storage and display, and supporting organization of client records and data under supervision.

    • Inspecting product donations to ensure that all safety and sanitation standards are met under supervision.

    Qualifications:

    • Must pass an AmeriCorps National Service Criminal History check.

    • Must have a Louisiana driver’s license or state ID.

    • Must be 17 years of age or older.

    • Must have high school diploma or be in program earning high school equivalency degree.

    • Must be able to lift 40 pounds unassisted.

    • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

    • Must have basic computer skills.

    • Must have access to a reliable and consistent means of transportation.

    NourishCorps Member Benefits & Member Experience:

    • Member living allowance of up to $11,000 possible based on serving 900 hours throughout the 11/3/2025–7/31/2026 term, distributed as $550 every bi-weekly pay period.

    The NourishCorps Nutrition Education Member will serve in a unique position at the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana, expanding the food bank’s capacity to engage and educate neighbors through hands-on nutrition and community outreach. Core service activities will include:

    1. Planning and conducting pop-up cooking demonstrations with food bank products at Martha’s Market food pantry and partner agencies using recipes that promote healthy, affordable meal preparation.

    2. Creating and distributing nutrition education materials to pantry visitors, schools, partner agencies, and at community-based events to reinforce healthy eating habits and meal planning.

    3. Supporting the food bank’s child nutrition programs, including Backpack Program distributions, site coordination for summer and afterschool meal programs, and collaboration with elementary schools and community centers on meal enrollment and outreach.

    4. Tabling and representing the food bank at community events, fairs, and resource gatherings to share information about food bank programs.

    5. Collecting participation data and feedback from cooking demos and nutrition outreach to help improve program design and neighbor engagement.

    1.      SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) – the federal program that helps eligible individuals and families purchase food each month (formerly called food stamps)

    2.      CSFP (Commodity Supplemental Food Program) – the federal program providing monthly food boxes to low-income seniors.

    The member will enhance the food bank’s outreach efforts, community education, and data collection process while getting hands-on operational experience. The members will help more neighbors access food resources and benefits while building connections between the food bank and the people it serves.

    About This Unique Position Within the Food Bank:

    NourishCorps Field Specialist Members will serve in a unique capacity-building role that strengthens the food bank’s ability to connect with community members and partners. This role focuses on expanding outreach, education, and application support to build sustainable systems that improve food access and awareness.

    Members will increase awareness of available food assistance programs, provide one-on-one guidance to neighbors navigating SNAP and CSFP enrollment, and support logistics for community food distribution and nutrition programs. These activities are designed to enhance existing operations, ensuring that staff and volunteers can serve additional neighbors more effectively.

    Activities may include:

    1. Strengthening outreach and education by hosting or participating in community events, job fairs, and information tables to share SNAP and CSFP information.

    2. Providing one-on-one guidance to neighbors as they navigate food assistance applications under the supervision of the site supervisor.

    3. Traveling to and participating in mobile pantry and CSFP distribution events, taking part in intake, record-keeping, neighbor interaction, set-up and break-down, and ensuring safe handling of food and supplies.

    4. Promoting nutrition education by planning and participating in cooking demonstrations and community workshops.

    5. Conducting follow-ups at backpack sites to collect program data and feedback.

    About This Unique Position Within the Food Bank:

    The NourishCorps Pantry and Warehouse Members will serve in a unique position at Second Harvest food Bank’s facilities in New Orleans, Lafayette, and Houma, expanding the food bank’s capacity to connect neighbors with nutritious food and maintain efficient warehouse operations. Members in this dual role will engage directly with neighbors through the on-site pantry while strengthening food distribution systems behind-the-scenes. The members will:

    1. Welcome and engage with neighbors at the on-site food pantry, providing information about available programs, resources, and what they need to bring to the pantry distribution; support neighbors through the intake and food distribution process.

    2. Accompany neighbors as they shop in the on-site pantry, helping them make decisions that best suit their family’s needs; provide operational support including bagging food products and loading neighbor vehicles.

    3. Support the organization and efficient movement of food products, including packing boxes and restocking pantry shelves.

    4. Administer pantry and program applications, working one-on-one with neighbors as they understand and navigate the process.

    5. Contact seniors from the CSFP (Commodity Supplemental Food Program, also known as “Senior Food Box) waitlist, coordinate reminders for upcoming distributions, and prepare CSFP boxes for delivery.

    6. Provide neighbors and partner agencies with program and pantry information.

Provide overall programmatic and logistical support for food assistance and nutrition initiatives throughout the food bank’s service area, with a focus on reaching rural and food-insecure communities. Support and participate in food distributions, including set-up, registration, packing, loading, and clean-up activities

    Service Position Activities Will Also Include:

    • Performing duties in accordance with food bank safety policies and Feeding Louisiana’s NourishCorps member handbook.

    • Attending and completing all NourishCorps and food bank required training and orientation.

    • Traveling to other Louisiana food banks for training, service, and networking opportunities with NourishCorps members throughout the state.

    • Meeting with food bank site supervisor and Feeding Louisiana staff as scheduled.

    • Inputting data into computer systems, supporting programmatic operations, and supporting organization of client records and data under supervision.

    • Representing the food bank at community events, volunteer activities, and resource fairs.

    • Providing referral services for clients.

    Qualifications:

    • Must pass an AmeriCorps National Service Criminal History check.

    • Must obtain Servsafe food handler’s certificate during orientation.

    • Must have a Louisiana driver’s license or state ID.

    • Must be 17 years of age or older.

    • Must have high school diploma or be in program earning high school equivalency degree.

    • Must be able to lift 40 pounds unassisted.

    • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

    • Must have basic computer skills.

    • Must have access to reliable and consistent means of transportation.

    • Must pass an MVR (motor vehicle record) driving check.

    NourishCorps Member Benefits & Member Experience:

    • Member living allowance of up to $11,000 possible based on serving 900 hours throughout the 11/3/2025–7/31/2026 term, distributed as $550 every bi-weekly pay period.

    • Upon successful completion of 900 hours of service, the member will receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award.

    • Supportive and valuable NourishCorps member experience as the inaugural cohort.

    • Mentorship from food bank and Feeding Louisiana staff.

    • Opportunity to build relationships with NourishCorps members throughout the state as the first-ever NourishCorps cohort.

    • Professional development and training opportunities.

    • Traveling to other regions of the state to learn from other food banks, develop personal and professional leadership skills, and build camaraderie with NourishCorps members (travel costs paid).
